About this site

Nursing the run is a site for women who want to find the time, encouragement, inspiration, and resources for getting the most joy out of running, no matter where you are in your adventure. My blog chronicles the challenge of life as a runner and a mother, as well as random thoughts had on the run. The rest of the site will be filled with related articles, notes and resources on running and living as a runner, from just getting started, to gear, to running with a kid on the way, to tackling a marathon when you have a very young baby. No, not all of it is here yet. But hey! That’s all the more reason to check back weekly. Or better yet, subscribe!

Caveat: this is not a scientific site. I may point you in that direction, toward resources you can read for yourself. But the information here is largely experiential, and meant to be inspiring and encouraging, or just good for a laugh. The bottom line is, this is a site about reveling in running, and figuring out how to keep it up and keep enjoying it as long as possible.

Tantrums

Goals, guts and maybe, sometimes, glory

I doubt anyone was watching, but I missed my appointed blogging time last week. This was largely due to a series of writing projects that were tossed into my lap by a Major Client. Read: Do Not Refuse. So I had my little bit of free time taken over by work. I am thankful for [...]

A hard time to get there

Several weeks ago, Evelyn introduced a phrase which has become common parlance in our house: “it’s taking a hard time to get there”. That phrase is usually accompanied by a shakey, tearful voice, shot through with disappointment. Todd and  I immediately identified. So many things in life take a hard time to get to. Especially recovery. [...]

race

Funny, I have been meaning to write about my last race for, oh, about three months now, but have not been able to settle my mind enough to revisit it. Perhaps  this is because the race was sandwiched between Halloween and Thanksgiving travel, just at the edge of that time of year when there is [...]

Barefoot Revelation: The Injury Chronicle Continues

The trouble with injuries? Oh, about a million things. I have been posting on again, off again about the stupid Trochanteric Bursitis and ITB syndrome pestilence since January, I think. It has been, as you must have gathered, extremely frustrating to have been in excellent shape for a race, nutrition finally nailed, speed goals acheived….then [...]
